This week we sat down with John Brock, owner of Constructability3D. Not only is he a builder, but he turned his technological skills, utilizing SketchUp, into a startup business. He is a published author and accomplished lecturer and public speaker. It has been a privilege to interact with him over the course of his time in RAMP-in-Residence. Let’s find out what he has been working on since completing the program.
John’s main focus since graduating from RAMP-in-Residence in January has been to acquire investors. His hope is to be able to hire additional employees into the company in the future. He has also been working to establish a pool of builders and begin focusing more on the consulting. He also intends to continue his with SketchUp.
When it comes to the RAMP-in-Residence program, John states that it was all beneficial for the growth of his company, particularly the mentorship, workshops, and courses. He also notes that the day-to-day interactions and encouragement to put himself out there were an added benefit. When it comes to the challenges he faces now that the program has ended, office space and daily interactions are at the top of the list. To John, the difficulty comes from no longer having the collaborative atmosphere to help drive and motivate him to push himself beyond his boundaries. As previous cohort members have also mentioned, staying connected is key. One way that John does this is to correspond with his mentor via e-mail updates. This provides him with accountability and flexibility for continued mentorship and growth.
John would encourage those considering RAMP-in-Residence to commit to the program 110%. He would also advise future cohort members to take advantage of networking opportunities early-on and listen to the advice of the instructors, mentors, and RAMP leadership. Taking his advice will undoubtedly Fastrack any company toward its growth potential. About the Company
Constructability3D is a back-office pre-construction project management service, assisting builders, architects, and building owners by building detailed 3D models of proposed construction projects BEFORE construction begins. They provide Constructability Reviews, detailing all issues encountered, as well as the 3D model itself, which may be used to reference during construction in the office and in the field. The models are excellent for pre-construction meetings, providing incredible detail and visualizations for the entire team. Quantity takeoffs are available as well!
